damn that sucks man, a good way to get noticed is go on artist message boards, this one has alot of pro's, and amateurs that work in comics, graphic design and a bunch of other crap

sorry to hear that. If its any comfort, my brother is a commercial artist. was at the same place for probably 25 years. they went out of business and he has to start over. He got a new job at some other place not too long after being let go. He's in his 50's and working as the new guy with people in their 20's. but at least he got a job when he didnt think it would be possible to start over so late in life.

What I'd love to do is advertising, come up with identity campaigns and shit. I know that takes years, but I'd love to get started on that road.

I'm in the same boat, same field man - I feel your pain. My last day was last friday, and I'm on severance pay until may 24th... looking for the same kinda work!
